This index, along with the
S&P600 index, has been problematic for the Indicant. The Indicant's
$10,000 investment in 1982 grew to $154,138, while buy and hold is a bit
higher at $157,117 as of the end of 2013. This and the S&P600, which are
the two extremes among major indices, as the large caps and small caps.
Buy and hold has a 1.7% advantage over the Indicant. However, the Indicant
held a 25.9% advantage in 2008 as it avoided the 2007-2008 stock market
bear. The model was adjusted slightly in 2012.
Bear signal #07 would not have occurred with that slight adjustment.
With that, the Indicant would gain a mild performance advantage over buy
and hold for this index. However, even with modeling improvements, the
Indicant does not change its historical records. It simply continues to
improve. With the exception of the S&P600, all other
indices maintain a significant advantage over buy and hold.
